Community action to ensure quality education
AEA’s partner - Action for Rural Technology and Service (ARTS) adopted Tennukharja village, in Andhra Pradesh, for implementation of our Back 2 Basics (B2B) education programme. The village is located in Gottivada Panchayat in Kurupam Mandal. The Government public school in this village had only one teacher. The teacher was often absent, leading to a disturbed study pattern for the children. To tackle this issue, a volunteer teacher was appointed with AEA’s support. This volunteer used play-way methodologies as a mode of instruction. This captured the interest and enthusiasm of the eager-to-learn students. With heightened levels of interest from the students, a village level meeting was called, and the community resolved that a new teacher needed to be appointed. The community submitted this resolution to concerned government authorities and in a short period of time, a new teacher was appointed.
