HIV - AIDS and Health
Situation
India is one of the countries with highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS infection
Although the overall prevalence remains low, some states experience a generalized epidemic with the virus transmitted from high risk groups in to the general population
Statistical data shows that India has 5.134 million people with HIV infection.
The epidemic is fast moving from urban to rural areas and from high risk groups to general population.
Over 4% of those affected are children below 14 years.
The efforts of the government and initiatives by the NGOs are addressing not only prevention in terms of awareness but also care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families
